The Cochrane Environmental Action Committee (CEAC) is pulling out all the stops next week, presenting a double bill at the Frank Wills Memorial Hall – and it’s BYOP - bring your own popcorn.

It won’t be Anora or even Deadpool, but promises to be a riveting discussion regardless.

It’s Solar Power 101.

The morning starts out with Solar Panels 101 - An Overview and Introduction to Solar Power and then moves into Solar Clubs 101 - An Overview and Introduction to Maximizing Your Solar Power Economics.

It all takes place Saturday March 15th from 10 a.m. until noon. Participants are asked to register so that refreshments can be planned accordingly.

Stephanie Westlund from Solar Alberta will debunk some of the myths related to solar power – capital costs, rebates, pay back periods and much more.

For anyone contemplating diving into the field, she will provide the foundational knowledge needed to take the next steps in the renewable energy and energy efficiency journey.

Westlund is the Solar Training Lead for Solar Alberta. She manages the Solar Training Program as well as represents Solar Alberta in the Calgary area. Stephanie is passionate about working towards a just and sustainable energy future in Alberta.

She holds an MA in Resources and the Environment and a PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies.

Stephanie grew up in the foothills west of Cochrane (and attended Cochrane schools) and enjoys spending time outdoors, especially walking, hiking, biking, cross-country skiing and working in the garden.

For those who have already installed solar on their homes, Darren Chu will explain the Solar Club process and the advantages of solar clubs.

During the summer months when more energy is being exported to the grid than imported, users can select a higher electrical rate and maximize their return.

In the winter months, however, when the opposite is true, they can select a lower electrical rate.

Chu is the Managing Director at Utility Network & Partners Inc. ("UTILITYnet"), a leading retailer of electricity, natural gas, and Internet services in Alberta.

Passionate about making affordable energy accessible to Albertans, Chu plays a key role in actively addressing energy policy and advocating for regulatory changes that benefit consumers. His multifaceted role spans technology, business development, education, and team management, enabling the company to thrive and venture into new markets.
