Incumbent Blake Richards earns 71.3 of Airdrie-Cochrane's vote

The Conservative MP has held a seat in parliament since first being elected in 2008.

Airdrie-Cochrane Member of Parliament Blake Richards has earned his seat for the sixth time, having been first elected in 2008.

Richards earned a significant portion of the vote - 71.3 per cent, which equates to 49,641 ballots cast.

First-time Liberal Sean Secord came in second, earning 16,469, or 23.6 per cent of votes in the riding.

NDP Sarah Zagota received 2,533 votes, Libertarian David Sabine got 615, and Christian Heritage candidate Christopher Bell earned 373.

69,621 of 94,181 registered electors in Airdrie-Cochrane cast a ballot on Monday's election, which is 73.92 per cent of the riding. Out of 115,230, there are 94,181 eligible electors.

This is the first election for the Airdrie-Cochrane riding, which changed from the previous electoral district of Banff-Airdrie; created back in 2012.

2,201,098 of 3,234,505 registered electors in Alberta voted. Across the province, 34 Conservative MPs have been elected, two Liberals, and one NDP.

Mark Carney has held onto his position as Prime Minister, though it is still unclear whether the Liberals will earn a majority or minority government.
