Anyone wondering about home heating options after the recent power outages will be able to learn from the experts at the Cochrane Environmental Action Committee’s (CEAC) upcoming information session with two expert speakers providing free advice.
The second session in the Living Sustainably Series will provide the basic information required to understand and assess options for your home energy retrofit.
The first section will cover the basics of heat pumps and the second will provide an overview of EnerGuide Evaluations and Canada Greener Home Grants and Loans.
A heat pump is a heating and cooling system that transfers heat from one place to another. It can extract heat from the air, ground, or water source and transfers it indoors or outdoors to heat or cool a space. It also offers several other benefits, including increased energy efficiency, cost savings, and overall versatility. Additionally, heat pumps are environmentally friendly, as they use renewable heat sources and produce fewer greenhouse gas emissions.
There has been much dialogue about whether or not they are appropriate for Alberta , especially during cold snaps. An expert from Calgary’s Horizon Heating and Air Conditioning will provide the overview and take questions about this exciting technology.
Some of the points that will be reviewed include: What are the misconceptions? What size, model, should you consider? How much does a system cost? What is the typical payback?
The Green Grants section of the program will answer questions like: Have you ever wondered how energy efficient your home was? What renovations would make the most impact? How to get an energy assessment? Have you heard about the $5000 Greener Homes Grant or the $40,000 interest free loans from the federal government? An expert from VerdaTech Energy Management & Consulting Inc. will provide answers.
The event is at Frank Wills Memorial Hall, 405 – 1st St East on Feb. 10, 1 to 3 pm. Doors open at 12:30.
This is a free event, sponsored by CEAC. They ask participants to register at Eventbrite.ca (enter “Living Sustainably ll”).
