An update on the progress of the Highway 1A and 22 Interchange outlines that the project is more than halfway done.

As construction on highly anticipated Highway 1A and 22 Interchange Project continues, an update from the offices of the Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors outlines that the project is more than halfway done.

In an email from a department spokesperson, preliminary construction on the Highway 1A and 22 Interchange starting in 2022, which included work by the Town to relocate water and sewer lines.

The main construction contract was awarded to EllisDon construction, which started in early 2023. Currently, the project is over half complete.

The total estimated cost of the project is $110 million, funded by the Government of Alberta, alongside additional contributions from the Town of Cochrane for utility relocation.

Traffic is expected to hit the interchange by the end of 2025, with overall completion anticipated by 2026. These estimates are all weather dependent.

Upon the completion of the interchange, the existing temporary detour roundabout will be removed once construction is finished, and two new roundabouts will be added along Highway 1A as a permanent part of the interchange.
