The Calgary Police Service (CPS) Arson Units continues to investigate reports that two separate Tesla vehicles were intentionally set on fire earlier this week.

According to police. on Tuesday, March 1, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the first victim parked her white 2023 Tesla Model Y at the Tesla charging station located at 314 12 Ave. S.E. At approximately 11 p.m., she received a notification that her Tesla was no longer charging, looked out the window from her apartment and observed the vehicle on fire.

The victim called 9-1-1 and the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) attended and extinguished the fire. CPS officers also attended the scene, and felt based on the evidence the fire was intentionally set using an accelerant.

Police are asking anyone who had their vehicle parked at the Tesla charging station located at 314 12 Ave. S.E., between 9 and 11:30 p.m., on Tuesday, March 18 check their vehicle’s camera system and contact police with any relevant footage.

The next evening, on Wednesday, March 19, at approximately 9:50 p.m., police were called to a Tesla storage lot, located at 6812 Fairmount Dr. S.E., following reports of a vehicle on fire.

Upon arrival, CFD extinguished the fire, and the CPS Arson Unit investigators determined a grey 2025 Tesla Cybertruck was believed to be intentionally set on fire with an accelerant.

Investigators are in the process of collecting evidence, including CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses. At this time, investigators believe the two incidents may be connected.

“We continue to investigate these arsons that have targeted Tesla vehicles,” said Staff Sgt. Kurt Jacobs of the Calgary Police Service Arson & Robbery Unit. “Tesla owners are encouraged to put their car in sentry mode when their vehicle is parked in a non-secure area. For those with the feature, sentry mode is developed to engage the vehicle’s camera system to record suspicious activity occurring around the vehicle and notifies the owner of the suspected activity.”

The investigation into both arsons remains ongoing, and anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers through any of the following methods:
