In Loving Memory
Reginald Bertly Munro
April 9, 1929 Calgary, AB - January 4, 2025 Calgary, AB
Born in Calgary in 1929 Reginald Bertly Munro passed away peacefully at the Brentwood Care Center in Calgary on the morning of January 4, 2025 at the age of 95. The eldest son of John and Grace Munro he had two brothers, Gary and Milo, and two sisters, Joan and Charlotte. He is predeceased by his parents and his brother Gary.
In 1949 he married Edna Cullen who was the love of his life. Following their marriage Reg and Edna resided in the Springbank community working and contributing to the farming operation of Reg's parents which was a combination of grain farming, dairy operation, and raising beef cattle.
In 1966, then parents of a daughter and son, Diane and Dean, Reg and Edna moved to a farm north of Cochrane and took up raising cattle in a cow calf operation. Reg, assisted by Edna, soon became recognized for producing top quality beef calves. In 2002 the Alberta Simmental Association awarded them jointly that year's title "Commercial Cattleman of the Year".
After many years of raising cattle and doing all the tasks that come with, Reg retired but continued to reside on the land where he worked raising cattle for decades. Finally failing health on their part forced Red and Edna to move into Cochrane to the Big Hill Lodge, where they happily resided. Eventually Reg's increasing health difficulties resulted in his moving to the Brentwood Care Centre in Calgary where he then resided until his passing. After 74 years of marriage Edna predeceased him in 2023.
He never lost his love of, and interest in, raising cattle. Until his passing the sight of a well-cared for herd of cows grazing in the summertime on a pasture of lush green grass along with their calves, remained one of his great pleasures in life.
Remaining to treasure their loving memory of Reg are his two children, Diane (Don) and Dean (Gloria); his five grandchildren, Laura (Grant), Cameron (Jessica), Sayla (Dean), Jenny (Shone), and Jacob (Danielle); his twelve great-grandchildren, Wacey, Gunnar, Willow, Cree, Edgar, Felix, Stella, Tristan, Holly, Hanna, Freya and Dagon; as well as his three surviving siblings, Milo, Joan and Charlotte.
Reg was always well thought of and considered an honorable gentleman.
We, his family, shall miss him greatly. May he rest in peace after a life well lived.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday January 11, 2025 at the Springbank United Church (250011 Range Rd 33, Calgary, AB T3Z 1L2) at 1:00 pm. Interment to follow at Springbank United Church Cemetery.
