Richard Broatch, beloved husband of
Joan Broatch (nee MacLean), of Cochrane, AB, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2024, at the age of 82 years.
Born on March 31, 1942, in Cochrane, AB, Richard joined the Armed Forces at the age of eighteen and was stationed in Halifax, NS, for seven years. On April 18, 1964, he married Joan, the love of his life, and lovingly fathered Janice Martin (nee Broatch), Graeme Broatch, and Kirsten Jones (nee Broatch).
Richard graduated from the University of Calgary with a degree in Education.
In the words of his grandson, Richard was a master wordsmith who delivered striking quotes and fiery speeches with purpose and impact. However, he was most in his element with the young and found his greatest joy in their growth, success, and learning.
He will be most remembered for the love of his family, including Corinn and son Rylen, as well as Tyler, Evan, Sarah, Charles, and Jackson.
Besides his loving wife, Richard is survived by his sisters, Judith Flundra (nee Broatch), married to Dennis Flundra, and Susan Gie (nee Broatch), married to Dennis Gie, and their children Sherri, Stacey, Simone, and Michael. His in-laws, including Ivana Broatch (nee Vicha), David Martin, and Marshall Jones, grieve his passing.
Richard was predeceased by his brother, Malcom, and his parents, Mary Broatch (nee Rogers) and Graeme Andrew Broatch, as well as his parents-in- law, John and Claire MacLean.
Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Cochrane, 369 Railway Street, Cochrane, AB), on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
