Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Rocky View County near Cochrane, effective Monday, April 21.

Heavy flurries are in the forecast, with total snowfall amounts ranging from 10 to 25 centimetres expected across the region. Areas west of Highway 2 and at higher elevations are likely to see the heaviest accumulation, with highly localized totals of 10 to 15 centimetres possible in a short period of time.

Motorists are being urged to exercise caution, as visibility may be suddenly reduced due to heavy snow. Travel conditions may deteriorate quickly, particularly in areas experiencing the most intense snowfall.

Driving tips during poor visibility:

  • Slow down and watch for tail lights ahead
  • Be prepared to stop unexpectedly
  • Take frequent breaks during long drives
  • Avoid overexertion when clearing snow

Environment Canada notes that due to the convective nature of this weather system, conditions will vary significantly across the region. While some areas may only see showers or light flurries, others could experience much heavier snowfall.

The snowfall is expected to taper off by Tuesday morning, but residents are encouraged to stay informed as the system progresses.
