The Town announced this year’s Order of Cochrane nominees at the Committee of the Whole meeting on April 7, with committee members holding a secret ballot to confirm their choice for the worthy recipient.
The 2024 nominees include April Baird, Don and Shirley Begg, Bill Belsey, Marina Chabbert, Dr. Dennis Fundytus, Terrance Haxton, Karlene Myers and Mona Sylvestre.
This is the second nomination for Don and Shirley Begg, Marina Chabbert and Mona Sylvestre.
The results of Monday night’s secret ballot were not revealed to the public, but a formal announcement of the chosen nominee will take place at an upcoming Cochrane council meeting.
According to the literature provided by the Town, recipients are individuals who best exemplify “our vision for Cochrane. Innovative, bold and dynamic, Cochrane is a community that creates its destiny by building on our proud heritage. We are people of vision in environmental stewardship and economic vitality which was passed down to us through our strong and rich western Canadian foundation. At the heart of Cochrane we value our community charm, distinctive big hills, escarpments, waterways and unique opportunities.”
