The Helping Hands Society of Cochrane and Area is encouraging residents to brave sub-zero temperatures and participate in their Coldest Night of the Year fundraising event on Feb. 22.
The event aims to support individuals experiencing hunger, hurt, and homelessness in Cochrane. This year, the walk will start at Riverside Doors of the SLS Centre, and participants can choose to complete either the 2KM or 5KM route. In addition, adults who raise $150, or youth who raise $75, will receive a Coldest Night of the Year toque.
The event takes place across 200 communities in Canada, where people experience the hardship of being on the streets during a Canadian winter. The walk in Cochrane will raise funds to support the work of the Helping Hands Society of Cochrane as they continue to serve the vulnerable in the community.
This will be the fifth year that Helping Hands will be taking part in the Coldest Night of the Year, and they’re aiming to make $75,000 for their work to help people who are struggling in Cochrane. It is anticipated that there will be around 250 participants and 60 teams in this year’s event.
Helping Hands has been serving the community of Cochrane for 15 years. To participate in the walk or to donate, please visit cnoy.org/Cochrane.
