Cochrane Fire Services (CFS) share more details relating to a car fire that took place in the early morning of Mar. 5.

CFS Chief Shawn Polley explained the fire that took place along Railway Street West, with firefighters arriving on scene just before 8 a.m.

“On arrival, they found a single grey Subaru Impreza parked on the south curb and it was a fully involved car fire in the engine compartment,” he said. “So, they quickly stepped into action and pulled some lines off the truck and suppressed the fire.

“No injuries were reported to the lone occupant of the vehicle.”

Currently, the fire is still under investigation, but Polley said that it is odd that vehicle caught on fire.

“They’re very safe vehicles here in North America, so it is a bit odd,” Polley said. “The fire investigator will look into the cause and report back to the insurance companies, the owner, and all that stuff.”

For anyone with any footage or photos of the incident, Polley said that CFS is accepting anything the community is willing to share from the incident.

“Give us a call here at the fire station, and we would be happy to give them an email or a place where they can drop that video,” he said. “[We’re] definitely not looking at any kind of suspicion of arson at this point. It certainly looks like a very accidental event, but we certainly would always encourage folks to reach out to us if they have any additional information they can share.”

Polley adds that CFS is thankful everyone is safe, and they give condolences to the owner of the vehicle that was engulfed in flames.

“No injuries, I think, is really important, no other vehicles were involved, no property damage, and as things go, it was a routine call for CFS,” he said. “They were back probably within an hour of response, so that just shows it worked out well.

“Our hearts and prayers to the family that lost the vehicle. It’s not repairable at all, so that’s always a tough one, especially in today’s economic time to lose a vehicle.”
