Six-time 2013 Academy Award nominee, Nebraska, is the next film in line for the Chinook Film Group.
The screening will take place at 7 p.m. March 19 at the Cochrane Movie House. Tickets are $10 and are available at Java Jamboree and Video Experts.
“This film has a great cast, not ‘unknown’, but rarely seen,” said Murray Mitchell of the Chinook Film Group.
“The subtle performance by Bruce Dern earned him a ‘Best Actor’ Oscar nomination. June Squibb, who plays his wife, was also nominated for a ‘Best Supporting Actress’ Oscar,” explained Mitchell.
“The family is rounded out by a relative newcomer to the big screen, Will Forte of Saturday Night Live fame and Bob Odenkirk — lately starring as the crooked lawyer, Saul, in Breaking Bad.”
The film also earned a nomination for ‘Best Picture’, ‘Best Director’ for Alexander Payne (The Descendants, Sideways and About Schmidt) and a nomination for ‘Best Cinematography’ (shot in various shades of grey) at the Oscars.
The comedy-drama road flick is based on an aging alcoholic who travels from Montana to Lincoln, Nebraska with his estranging son to stake his claim on a one million dollar Sweepstakes prize.
Written by Bob Nelson (who makes a cameo appearance), the film has been most noted for its cast and cinematography.
Although the movie is available for rent or purchase, Mitchell said the March selection was based not only on the integrity of the cast and plot, but the added value to view the “stunning shades of grey” in the cinema would be incomparable to watching it from home.
Meeting with positive reviews since its world premiere at the 66th annual Cannes Film Festival May 23, 2013, Nebraska has also received a host of other nominations, including five Golden Globes, six Independent Spirit Awards, three Satellite Awards and two from the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Wins include ‘Best Ensemble’ and ‘Best Supporting Actress’ for Squibb from the Boston Society of Film Critics; ‘Best Cast’ at the Satellite Awards; ‘Best Actor’ and ‘Best Supporting Actor’ at the National Board of Review.
