The newest selection from Cochrane’s film aficionado group will take spectators on an intricate and interesting trip to Paris.
The Past (Le Passe) is the latest offering from Iranian director Asghar Farhadi, the filmmaker behind the Oscar-winning A Separation. The French drama will be on screen at the Cochrane Movie House Feb. 19, courtesy of the Chinook Film Group. The screening is set to run at 7 p.m.
Having seen A Separation — and featured it as one of their monthly selections — the film group wasted no time adding The Past to its 2014 line-up.
“We’ve been excited and expected (Farhadi’s) new film to be a good one,” said Murray Mitchell, spokesperson for the local film organization. “One of our members saw the film at the Calgary International Film Festival and insisted we present it.”
The Past was nominated for a 2014 Golden Globe in the category of Best Foreign Language Film.
The film stars Berenice Bejo, Ali Mosaffa and Tahar Rahim. It tells the tale of a Frenchwoman who asks her husband to return from Iran for divorce proceedings. The two have long been separated, but connect to bid farewell to their love.
Tickets to see The Past are $10 and can be purchased at Java Jamboree or Video Experts.
The Chinook Film Group will continue their screenings next month, although the presentation has yet to be selected.
