Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit assisting in investigation east of Canmore

Few details were provided by the RCMP on Sunday (April 18) regarding an investigation along Highway 1A.

STONEY NAKODA— Alberta’s RMCP Major Crimes Unit (MCU) is assisting in an investigation east of Canmore on Highway 1A.

Police tapped off and are monitoring a parking lot east of the Nakoda Lodge Sunday afternoon (April 18) along the secondary highway in the Stoney Nakoda First Nation.

“The RCMP Major Crimes Unit is assisting the Stoney Nakoda RCMP detachment with an investigation related to an incident on Highway 1A, west of Morley Road,” said RCMP Cst. Patrick Lambert.

Further details were not provided.

According to the RCMP website, the MCU is responsible for conducting homicide investigations.

“It is generally those more serious offences [when the MCU is present],” added Lambert.
