Airdrie-Cochrane voters will have the opportunity to meet the riding's new NDP candidate this weekend at a public event in Cochrane.
On July 10, Shaun Fluker will officially launch his candidacy for the next provincial election at the Cochrane Ranche Clubhouse from 2 to 4 p.m.
“I am thrilled to join Rachel Notley’s team," said Fluker in a press release. "I believe the next provincial election is a pivotal moment for the future of Alberta. The UCP has shown repeatedly over the past three years that they have no ability to lead when it matters.
"Their primary goal is to dismantle public institutions that matter to Albertans," he added, citing cuts to investment in post-secondary institutions, the UCP's implementation of "flawed" curriculum changes in K-12 schools, privatization of provincial parks, and the implementation of "expensive" Kananaskis Country user fees.
Fluker claims the Conservative government has also failed to address infrastructure and other funding needs in the fast-growing communities of Airdrie and Cochrane.
At the Sunday event, the NDP candidate will discuss his plans for the election trail and provide details on volunteer opportunities to help with his campaign. Alberta NDP MLA Marln Schmidt will also be in attendance to speak about the party's vision for the province's future.
The event is free to attend and light snacks and refreshments will be provided. The Cochrane Ranche Clubhouse is located at 80 Highway 1A on the Historic Cochrane Ranche site.
