What US product should we tariff the most? Their ownership of our news companies.
Where we Canadians get our information from is everything. It is critically important to the health of our democracy, and most importantly for our sovereignty. All countries know this, which is why the US won't even allow a single popular phone app (Tiktok) to be foreign owned.
Canada already has strict laws around non-Canadian ownership of cultural industries - television and radio stations may not be more than 20% foreign-owned.
We've got the hammer in our hands, now here is the nail:
All of the major newspapers in Alberta are owned by Postmedia (Editor's Note: The Cochrane Eagle is owned by Great West Media), which since 2016 has been owned by Chatham Asset Management (some guys who run a hedge fund in the suburbs of NYC). Postmedia actually owns most of the popular newspapers in Canada.
To further raise the alarm - these Chatham hedge fund guys are big fans of the current US president. These people are not our friends, and do not have our best interests at heart.
Canadians need to control our own news.
