HAYDN-JONES, Julia Anne

September 17, 1942 - May 27, 2024

Julia Haydn-Jones died with literary flourish at the end of her beloved Cochrane and Redwood Meadows Book Club meeting on the evening of Monday, May 27, 2024, at the age of 81 years.

Born in Galveston, TX, to a US Army Captain and a librarian, she migrated to East Tawas, MI, while the war raged.

After attending Saint Mary's College in Raleigh, NC, Sheffield University in the UK, and the University of Michigan, she returned to England in 1964 to teach in the Bedfordshire primary school system. There she met theatrical Welsh fellow teacher, Cledwyn “Cled”, and they quickly discovered similar passions, with exploration and adventure leading them to Kyle, SK, Kindersley, SK, Lloydminster, AB, Ashmont, AB, and finally to Redwood Meadows, AB, where they settled in 1988.

Julia was an adept teacher of special needs and Indigenous children in Cochrane and Morley.

She was a passionate supporter of the arts, namely ballet, theatre, and classical music, herself being a clarinetist and pianist.

She was a devoted churchgoer and choir member at All Saints in Cochrane.

Education, adventure, books, world cultures, and horticultural delights revealed her many passions. She relished the annual Booker Shortlist and pushing Kingsley Amis.

Julia is survived by three children, three grandchildren, and her husband Cled, who now resides at the Chinook Care Centre in Calgary.
