February 12, 1944 – April 3, 2025
Dennis Gustave Riske of Cochrane, AB, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 3, 2025, at Wentworth Manor in Calgary, after a period of declining health.
Born in Wetaskiwin, AB, Dennis was a devoted husband and father, lifelong entrepreneur with a deep love for the outdoors. He was a faithful Christian, known for his generous spirit and steadfast support of the churches in the communities where he lived. After marrying his wife Linda in 1966, they settled in Drayton Valley, where he founded Den-co Oilfield Services in 1975. He was active in the community, coaching minor hockey, playing fastpitch softball, and curling.
Dennis’s adventurous spirit found its greatest outlet in the outdoors. A passionate big game hunter, he traveled far beyond Alberta in pursuit of the experience—hunting in Africa and trekking through Kyrgyzstan. Whether in the mountains or the bush, Dennis loved the challenge, the quiet, and the connection to nature. Later in life, he turned his passion into craft, making custom hunting knives and spending time at his farm near Sundre with his beloved Westie dogs.
In 1996, after selling his business, Dennis moved to Castlegar, BC, to join a family venture, then returned to Alberta to settle in Cochrane. He continued to enjoy golf, time with family, and the outdoors for as long as his health allowed.
Dennis is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Linda, and their three children: Shauna (Dean), Janelle (Jim; children Isaac and Luke), and Scott (Michelle; children Yzabel and Yliana). He is also lovingly remembered by extended family and friends across Canada.
A graveside service will take place at Eden Brook Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, on April 14th, 2025 at 2:00 pm, followed by a Reception, 24223 Township Rd 242, Calgary, AB T3Z 3K2
If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to The Brenda Strafford Foundation, 4628 Montgomery Blvd NW, Calgary, AB T3B 0K7.
