November 20, 1948 – July 28, 2024
We are saddened to announce the passing of our dear Barbara Joyce Morgan on July 28th, 2024, at her home in Cochrane Alberta. Barb passed at 75 years of age after a short battle with cancer. Although she will be missed by her loved ones, we are comforted to know she is in the presence her Lord and saviour Jesus Christ.
Barb was born on November 20th, 1948, to Selina and Clair McMillan in North Battleford Saskatchewan. She grew up on the family farm outside of Meota, Saskatchewan and later moved to Cochrane, Alberta in the early 1970’s where she raised her two children, Loralee and Norman. In the early years Barb ran a day home and owned a janitorial business. In her fifties Barb became a Pharmacy Technician and worked in a NW Calgary pharmacy until retirement.
Barb made friends easily and enjoyed visiting or chatting on the phone whenever possible. A good game of Canasta was always welcomed. Barb was very fortunate to include her sisters Ada and Carol as her closest friends.
Barb and her husband Mike found each other later in life and enjoyed 28 years of adventure and happiness before Mike’s passing in 2022.
Travelling was a passion for Barb. She spent countless hours planning all the trips she and Mike enjoyed, including Hawaii, Cuba, Mexico, Alaska, and Eastern Canada. Her favourite locations were close to home at their cabin in Saskatchewan and on Vancouver Island. She and her husband Mike enjoyed drives to Kananaskis with occasional “pit stops” at the casino.
Barb loved to help others and enjoyed volunteering. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Over the years she delivered over 400 toques to Inn from the Cold and the Mustard Seed. She loved making afghans for her grandchildren. What she enjoyed most of all was time with her grandkids. She logged many hours at sporting events, school events, birthdays, holidays, and visits at home.
Left to mourn Barb is her daughter Loralee (Scott) Bellamy, Michael (Tania) Morgan, Melissa (Baljit) Morgan, daughter-in-law, Rachel Cobble, brother- Charles “Chuck” (Carolyn) McMillan, sister- Ada Furber, sister- Carol (Paul) Brammer, sister-in-law- Ruth McMillan. She will be missed dearly by multiple nieces and nephews who loved their “Auntie Barb”.
Barb was predeceased by her mother and father, Selina and Clair McMillan, husband, Mike Morgan, son Norman Cobble, brother Herb McMillan and brother- in-law David Furber
Barb loved and cherished her 10 grandchildren; Skye, Carson, Sara, Jodi, Camryn, Jayme, Luca, Sydney, Aliya and Kelsey. Her time spent with each grandchild was one of the biggest highlights of her life. She was so proud of each of them.
Barb will be truly missed by many and never forgotten. Special thanks to Katrina and Nicole of Cochrane Palliative Care. A very big thank you to all of Barbs’ friends and family for the support, love, and prayers given in the last few of months.
A Celebration of Barb’s Life will be held at the Cochrane Alliance Church (902 Glenbow Dr. Cochrane, AB) on Monday, August 12, 2024 at 1:00 pm. Donations may be made to Diabetes Canada or the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
