The Bow Valley Timberwolves U18AA is gearing up for its annual Pink in the Rink event on Jan. 25.

The Bow Valley Timberwolves U18AA will be hosting a special awareness match at on the ice for their annual Pink in the Rink awareness game on Jan. 25.

The match will take place in Totem 1 at the SLS Centre at 2:15 p.m. Entry to the event is free and will feature a silent auction with all proceeds dedicated for the Canadian Cancer Society to support breast cancer research.

This year, the Timberwolves will be squaring off against the West Central Tigers, a team based out of the Sylvan Lake area.

Cochrane Minor Hockey’s high performance director Marc Gelinas said the initiative has been going on for several years.

“The previous events we’ve had have been pretty exciting and highly emotional, especially with people who have a close connection to breast cancer,” Gelinas said. “The awesome thing about this is that the boys, after they’re done playing the game, they will pass their game worn jerseys to their mothers at the post-game ceremony.

“For the visiting team, we supply a rose that the kids can give to their mothers so they can be a part of it too.”

This year, YouTube content creators for Canada’s most misleading hockey news, Olly and Jacob from On the Bench will be making an appearance at the event. Gelinas adds that the honorary puck drop will be done by one of the directors of Cedarglen Homes. In terms of the silent auction, he adds that there will be several items up for bidding.

“The big-ticket item we have here is a donation from Garmin Canada here in town, which donated a watch for us to auction off,” he said. “We’re still finalizing them all, so we don’t know everything until it’s all finalized.”

Overall, Gelinas said the team looks forward to the match. He adds that they hope to see Cochranites come down to support the Timberwolves and raise money to help fight breast cancer.

“It’s a good event for a good cause, so lots of people around, highly emotional, and we’re helping the community and helping raise awareness for breast cancer,” Gelinas said.
