Their quest for the Calgary Bantam Football Association (CBFA) Division 2 championship doesn’t get any easier for the Cochrane Lions, as they meet Calgary Cowboys Navy in the final.
The Lions rebounded from a disappointing 15-9 overtime loss Oct. 20 to the Calgary Stamps with a convincing 59-28 victory over Airdrie Storm Oct. 27 on the frozen tundra of Shouldice Park’s Hellard Field.
Quarterback Des Catellier threw four touchdowns as Cole Avery, Eric Nusl, Tae Gordon and Spencer Marchand all found the endzone for Cochrane.
The Lions are now preparing for the rematch against Cowboys Navy, a team they beat Sept. 29 by one point in what was the best game of the regular season.
“Cowboys Navy are a well-coached team,” observed Lions head coach Jeff Avery, whose team went 8-0 in the regular season before the OT playoff loss to the Stamps. “We’ll definitely have our hands full with them. They didn’t like losing to us in the regular season. And I know their coach is going to make some adjustments. We’re going to do the same.”
Losing is no longer an option. It’s now win or go home.
“One more loss and we’re done. So we’re going to do our best and try and win a championship.”
The Lions and Cowboys Navy go at it for the CBFA Division 2 title Nov. 3 at Calgary’s Shouldice Park. Noon kickoff.
