As March 1 is the official start of wildfire season, Rocky View County Fire Services chief Randy Smith said it’s time for people to start being mindful of outdoor burning.
“There’s not a lot of snow and typically that means we find more brown, dry grass in the spring,” said Smith, adding that wildfire season peaks April through June and again toward the end of summer and into early fall.
A dry winter season, such as this year’s, generally indicates an increased potential for more grass fires.
Smith said information on fire permits is available at all County fire halls, including nearby Bearspaw; this information will be available online in the near future.
