Redwood Meadows Emergency Services (RMES) was the recipient of a late Christmas gift on Feb. 5 with a new rescue truck unveiled and put into service.

The cost of the new truck was mostly covered by the Townsite of Redwood Meadows, but received a significant contribution from the Shell Jumping Pound Complex through its Community Investment Program.

“We were thrilled when we received the confirmation letter,” said Redwood Meadows Firefighters’ Association (RMFA) president Gary Robertson. “This project was extremely important for our community and the contribution from Shell helped make it possible.”

With RMFA members reaching their fundraising goal of $40,000, Shell’s $20,000 donation was directed toward the purchase of specialized equipment, such as a generator, telescopic light tower and the construction of a customized crew cab allowing for the transport of additional personnel and act as a patient-care area and command centre.

“We felt it was important to provide the recognition for such a generous donation,” said Robertson of Shell’s contribution, which was the largest to be allocated by the Jumping Pound facility in several years. “We wanted to let our community know that Shell was a big supporter of this project…they felt it was a meaningful way to give back to the community they are part of with both their Jumping Pound and Moose Mountain sites in the area.”

RMFA is a charitable organization that fundraises for the purchase of equipment and training for RMES.
