Pilot dead, passenger critically injured in Springbank plane crash

UPDATE: EMS reported a male as deceased on scene while the other occupant of the plane, a female believed to be in her 30s, has been transported to hospital in life-threatening condition

A pilot is dead and his female passenger was transported to hospital in critical condition following a small-engine plane crash off Highway 1 on April 22.

EMS, RCMP, and other emergency responders responded to the scene of the accident, near the Springbank Airport, around 3:20 p.m. 

The 45-year-old male pilot was pronounced dead at the scene and the 22-year-old female passenger was transported by ground ambulance to a Calgary hospital with serious life-threatening injuries, according to a press release from Cochrane RCMP.

The release indicated the cause of the crash is unknown and still under investigation, and the Transportation Safety Board will take carriage of the investigation. No further updates are anticipated.
