The legacy of legendary Alberta wrestler Owen Hart lives on through the philanthropic efforts of the Owen Hart Foundation (OHF), which is once again hosting its annual “OHF Easter ‘Fill the Jeep’ Food Drive” in support of the Calgary Food Bank.
The foundation is calling on the community to help reach its goal of collecting 3,000 pounds of food donations.
“This is a worthwhile pursuit for people wanting to help citizens from Calgary and surrounding areas,” said OHF founder Martha Hart. “We’re always grateful for support from the city and neighbouring communities.”
Now in its sixth year, the Fill the Jeep food drive was first launched in 2020 in response to the economic strain felt by families during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I had a vision that if all my OHF committee members left a bag of food on their doorsteps and encouraged their neighbours and friends to do the same, then perhaps I could collect it all and ‘fill my jeep’ full of food to help support the Calgary Food Bank and families most in need,” said Hart.
Years later, the event has grown in scale, with three corporate partners supporting the cause: TRAPPED Escape Room, After Eight Interiors, and Tower Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram—the same dealership where Hart purchased the original Jeep inspiring this initiative.
“What I didn’t expect was how many generous OHF supporters and companies would respond to this small act of kindness,” said Hart, reflecting on the drive’s growth.
These partnerships have helped OHF collect thousands of pounds of food and monetary donations for the Calgary Food Bank. The partner storefronts now serve as drop-off sites for donations.
The Owen Hart Foundation will continue accepting donations for the food drive until April 20. Items can be dropped off during business hours at the following locations:
