As a result of the TV for Good project, Telus has donated $10,675 to the local Parent Link Centre, which offers free play programs for children, along with free education programs for parents.

The funds will be divided between upgrading the toys in the organization’s indoor playground, as well as to develop a collective cooking program that will aim to help families create affordable, nutritious meals.

“The funds raised with ensure that the Parent Link Centre programs for parents and their children have the program equipment they need,” said Susan Flowers, manager of Cochrane Family and Community Support Services and Social Planning. “Cochrane and area communities will benefit.”

The equipment Flowers is referring to includes a tree house climber and slide, a crawl and climb caterpillar, and a pirate ship climber. These pieces will be added to the indoor playground in an effort to improve the motor skills of children and promote health and wellness.

Kim Krawec, coordinator of the Western Rocky View Parent Link Centre, said the revamp of the indoor playground will also feature a large-screen TV that will display child developmental information and parent education resources to help raise awareness for services available for families.

Telus’ TV for Good initiative, run over the past six months, saw $25 from every new Cochrane customer that signed up for Optik TV donated to the Parent Link Centre. Pam Karnik, vice-president of Telus Customer Solutions Delivery, said the organization aims to thank it’s customers by reinvesting in the community.

“Telus is committed to building healthy, strong and sustainable communities, and we are pleased to amplify the efforts of the Western Rocky View Parent Link Centre,” she stated in a media release. “We are making a difference.”
