The Cochrane Public Library will welcome children's author Robert Feagan to the library on Friday Nov. 17 to talk about his books and his life.

Feagan's interactive and entertaining visits include stories of life growing up in the North, discussions of northern animals like muskox and polar bears, cultures and climate, visual displays, and conversations about northern artifacts from his personal collection.

His presentations include in-person and virtual interaction with museum quality artifacts (seven foot long narwhal tusk, walrus skull/tusks, harpoons, carvings, snow glasses, ulus, beadwork, babybelts, Gwich’in wedding gloves and much more!), discussion of Arctic cultures, animals, climate/climate change, reconciliation, life experience and much more.

Born in Fort McPherson, Northwest Territories, Feagan’s father served in the R.C.M.P and his mother was of Indigenous heritage. He has lived in and traveled to communities in both Nunavut and the Northwest Territories.

He was an elected hamlet councillor in Iqaluktuuttiaq (Cambridge Bay), Nunavut, served as the chairperson of the Inuvik Women’s Shelter, sat on the Inuvik Youth Circle Sentencing Committee and received the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal in 2022. His third novel Arctic Thunder was runner-up for the Golden Eagle Book Award in 2012 and named as “one of the 100 books that make you proud to be Canadian” by the CBC.
His presentations are geared towards students from Grades 3 to 9, but everyone is welcome. There will be presentations at 2 and 4 pm, with no registration required.

The visit is sponsored by the Young Alberta Book Society, which brings authors to libraries, schools, and other organizations which wouldn’t otherwise have access to such events.
