Rocky View Schools (RVS) has announced a new Associate Superintendent of Schools.

With over 27 years in Kindergarten to Grade 12 education, including 17 years with RVS, Jeff Smith will be taking the position effective Aug. 1, 2025.

“It is a privilege to serve RVS students, families and staff and build on the division’s successes,” Smith said. “I am excited to collaborate with my talented and dedicated colleagues to support the diverse needs of students, staff and communities in this new role.”

He has extensive experience in Kindergarten to Grade 12 education, demonstrating a deep commitment to student and staff success throughout his career. Previously, Smith has held numerous leadership roles, showcasing excellence in leadership in schools and with the Education Centre.

Most recently, he has served as the Director of Human Resources and Wellness and took on the role of Acting Associate Superintendent of Human Resources when needed.

“Jeff’s ability to foster strong school communities, enhance student learning and effectively navigate challenges has consistently been recognized throughout his time with RVS,” the Superintendent of Schools, Greg Luterbach, said. “I am confident RVS students, staff and families will continue to benefit from his leadership in this important role within the division.”

Smith first joined RVS as an off-campus coordinator and teacher at Cochrane High School and has since earned leadership roles in multiple schools within RVS.

Smith earned a Bachelor of Physical Education (Adolescent Studies) and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Calgary, a Master of Arts in Education (Administration and Supervision) from the University of Phoenix. He is currently completing his Diploma of Human Resource Management from the University of Manitoba.

"We are proud to complete our Executive team with one of our own exceptional leaders," Luterbach said.

Murray Besenski will continue in his role as Associate Superintendent of Schools until the end of the summer, working closely with Smith to ensure a seamless transition. The division extends its gratitude to Besenski for his dedication and leadership over his 21 years with RVS and for the positive impact he has had on student success throughout his career.
