Students from grades 9 through 12 are being invited to enter the first ever Cochrane Lions Rodeo Poster Competition.
The Lions are inviting students at the following schools: Cochrane High, Bow Valley, St. Timothy’s & Notre Dame des Vallées, asking young artists to design their Rodeo Poster for 2025. The top 10 finalists will win tickets to this years rodeo. The top three posters will win some fantastic prizes.
The winner receives a $1,000 Scholarship, Buckle, Art Supplies & Print 1 /1. The winning artist’s school will receive a cheque for $1,000 and Print 100/100. The winning artist‘s design will be featured in the 2025 Cochrane Rodeo marketing campaign.
The Cochrane Lions Rodeo is hosting an exhibition and public gallery to display the top 10 finalists submissions. The Rodeo Directors will judge the artwork and declare a winner along with second and third places respectively.
The winning poster will be scanned and digitally branded with the Cochrane Lions Rodeo logo, event date and artists name. Only 100 numbered posters will be printed. The winning artist signs prints 2 x 20. The original winning submitted art and commercial rights will be donated by the artist to the Cochrane Lions Rodeo. The top three winners will be invited to participate in news articles by Cochrane Now and the Cochrane Eagle along with the Lions own media outlets
The theme is “The Western Town of Cochrane & its Historic Rodeo.”
The idea is to combine three elements: the Cochrane Lions Rodeo, the Town of Cochrane and our Western heritage to create the Rodeo Poster for 2025.
Other rules include: only 1 Submission per student, portrait designs only, design size 11.7 x 16.5 inches up to 23.4 x 33.1 inches, 2D art only (no sculptures), stylus drawn digital art is permitted, the words of the theme title to not appear in the artwork, artist to modestly sign the bottom corner of their artwork (leave room for your name to be digitally added below your signature).
Original artwork to be submitted to the students’ art teachers by 1st May. Write your name, grade and school on the reverse of the artwork. Teachers to collate students submissions for collection 2nd May Exhibition at the Cochrane Lions Event Centre 25th May from 7pm.
The top 10 submissions will be on display at the exhibition. 1st, 2nd & 3rd place will be announced at the exhibition. All submissions apart from the winning submission will be returned. Winning original artwork to be donated to the Cochrane Lions Rodeo. Commercial rights to be donated to the Cochrane Lions Rodeo by the artist. Winning artist will receive Print 1 of 1. Winning school will receive Print 100 of 100. Winning Artist presented Winners Buckle Sunday 31st August.
PRIZES:1st Place Student: $1,000 Scholarship, Winners Buckle, $250 art supplies gift card, four Cochrane Rodeo Day passes & Print 1/1. The Winning Student’s school wins a cheque for $1,000 and Print 100/100. Both will receive media recognition. 2nd Place Student: $150 art supplies gift card & four Cochrane Rodeo day passes. 3rd Place Student: $100 art supplies gift card and four Cochrane Rodeo day passes. The remaining top 10 will all receive four Cochrane Rodeo day passes.
