Icy plunge in Cochrane this weekend before milder temps on Monday

The Cochrane area will plunge into the deep freeze over the weekend before warming up on Monday and Tuesday.

According to Environment Canada, temperatures are expected to plunge down to -22 C Friday night with a windchill factor of -26 C. It will be even colder on Saturday with the temperature expected to drop to -24 C overnight with a windchill factor of -27 C. Sunday should be slightly less frigid with an overnight temperature -17 C.

Daytime highs on Saturday and Sunday should be -16 C and -13 C respectively. 

There is some good news. Temperatures are expected to warm significantly on Monday with a daytime high of zero degrees expected. Tuesday should have a should be a balmy 10 C, according to Environment Canada.

The Old Farmer's Almanac predicts there's a good chance the region will stay warm until Christmas week, when more snow and a return to the freezer is expected once again. The milder winter temperatures should also coincide with the "Cold Full Moon," the last full moon of the year on Dec. 14.
