A St. Patrick's Day Party event on Mar.15 at the Cochrane Legion aims to raise funds to help pay for new kitchen equipment.

A St. Patrick’s Day Party to support the Cochrane Legion will be held on March 15.

The event will run from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and will feature live music, with fresh Atlantic-style fish and chips available for purchase.

Organizer Phonsie Corcoran explained that the event is dedicated to help fundraise for a new deep fryer and barbecue for the Cochrane Legion.

“The main reason is they’re getting a new barbecue, which is about $3,500 and a deep fryer which is about $1,300, so that’s about $5,000,” Corcoran said.

The highlight for the event will be the fish and chips served using Corcoran's mother’s recipe and ingredients from Newfoundland.

“It’s my mom’s batter from Newfoundland,” he said. “She had a restaurant in the bar industry and she had one of the best fish and chips down in Newfoundland; so we’re bringing that all in. [We’re] flying it in to get it picked up on Friday.”

Corcoran believes it will be an extremely good time and invites anyone who is interested to drop by and help support the Legion.

“Wear your green hats, Irish, green shirts, whatever you want,” he said. “It’s going to be a good time.”
