Here's how to get rid of your Christmas tree in Cochrane.

There are 365 days until Christmas.

That's right. The big day is over and residents of Cochrane likely have bags upon bags filled with Christmas paper, bows and other holiday accoutrements. Perhaps now, you're wondering what to do with that.

The Town of Cochrane said waste and recycling collection services will not be affected by the recently announced holiday hours. Carts should still be out by 7 a.m. on collection day.

Christmas wrapping paper, glossy and matte, should be put loose in blue bins if it is clean and dry.

Gift bags and tissue paper can be recycled, too, if all non-paper handles and decorations are removed.

Foil wrapping paper and bows, however, must be bagged and tossed into garbage carts. Or, better yet, reuse them next year.

Wondering what to do about your Christmas tree?

Curbside Christmas tree collection will occur from Jan. 3-14, on the same day as waste and recycling is picked up in each neighbourhood Trees must be cleared of all tinsel, lights, decorations and plastics before pickup.

If you're tossing an artificial tree, those must be black-bagged and put out on garbage collection day.

Any Christmas ornaments or decorations that didn't survive the holiday, too, must be thrown out in the garbage bin.

Strings of Christmas lights ready for discarding must have their light bulbs removed and tossed in the trash, while the cord must be recycled at Cochrane Eco Centre as electronic waste.
