Culture Days are coming to Cochrane Sep.7 and 8

There is much to enjoy in Cochrane’s local arts and culture scene, especially during the fifth annual Cochrane Culture Days on Sep. 7 to 8, sponsored by the Cochrane Music Society.

Festivities kick off Saturday at the Cochrane Farmers Market (SLS Sports Centre) from 10 am to 2pm. Check out the many terrific vendors at the Market and enjoy the performances of the Drowsy Maggies (Celtic band), the Stoney Mini Thni Dancers, Midnight Taiko (Japanese drums) and a demonstration by Ga-On Taekwondo Academy.

Balloons and Butterflies balloon twisters will be there creating fun balloon shapes for the kids and Imagine That YYC Face Painting will be happy to give them a new ‘persona.’

Then on Sunday, the Cochrane Culture Days stage moves to Centennial Plaza, Main Street, during the Cochrane Class Car Club Show ‘N’ Shine, to combine great performances with their ongoing event.  The amazing cars and trucks at the car show will be accompanied by a program of Westwinds Summer Jazz, the Cochrane Pipe Band, Six By Six, Fig Fusion, Melodic Mix and Canmore Traditional Jazz.

Balloons and Butterflies balloon twisters and Imagine That YYC Face Painting will again be on hand to add to the event.

Attendees parking on the south side of the tracks will be able to walk through to Main Street, and see Wazin Îchinabi Ti raising their tipi at The Station Greenspace. Once it is up, it will hold a display of Indigenous art.

At the west end of Main Street, Wazin Ichinabi Ti – House of Oneness – will be open for visitors to browse their artisan sale from 10 am to 3 pm and take home a special piece of art.

Cochrane Music Society is grateful for grants from Alberta Culture and the Town of Cochrane, and for generous sponsors – Erol’s Automotive, Long & McQuade, Co-operators, Riverbend Interiors, A. Clark Roofing & Siding, West Fraser, Abode Elevations, Daryl’s Service Glass and Ink’d Graphics all support this wonderful weekend event for the benefit of Cochrane and area residents.
