The Historic Downtown area will see unlikely speedsters take to the streets for the return of the Cochrane Outhouse Races, set to kick off on Sept. 22.

As with every year, First Street will be closed off to host various teams and their hand-crafted racing machines, with the first race starting at 11 a.m.

Team entries for this year’s races are still being accepted. For more information on how to enter, please visit www.rockymountainrotary.com.

Rocky Mountain Rotary (RMR) Club Member and chair for the 2024 Outhouse Races, Kelly Baum, said this year ’s event plans to offer a little more than just the races.

“There’ll be some businesses there with kiosks, and I don’t want to call it a fair, but it’s basically the same deal,” Baum said. “So, 10 a.m. would be a good time to show up, and 10:30 a.m. would be a good time to save your spot, see some of the attractions, and then at 11 a.m. the event starts.”

Proceeds raised from this year’s event will be put towards supporting RMR and any future endeavours they pursue in the future.

In terms of the event itself, Baum said he hopes to see nice weather when the races kick off, for an enjoyable day of races in Cochrane.

“The goal will be for people to come out and enjoy it,” Baum said. “I know that there’s a lot of people that re new to Cochrane, and they could come and experience why Cochrane is awesome, if you have these little events that keep it a small town.

“Enjoy the festivities, meet some people, and just be part of something unique to Cochrane.”

This will be the RMR’s second year championing the event, and Baum believes the town is in for another year of fun.

Overall, Baum said he would like to give a special thanks to the Town of Cochrane, The Cochrane and District Chamber of Commerce, Texas Gate Bar and Grill, and the many donors who are supporting this year’s Outhouse Races.
