Letter to the Editor: RVS failing out children

Rocky View Schools are failing our children. There is no academic support for struggling learners. Leadership, from the district level to the school level, do not have the knowledge or experience to make necessary changes.

Stoney Education Authority, Golden Hills, and Foothills divisions all have specialized interventionists who identify early learning gaps and work directly with struggling learners to close those gaps. Most notably, Canadian Rockies implemented a post pandemic intervention plan. Students went from 54 per cent on grade level to 86 per cent due to rigorous programming by highly qualified interventionists.

Rocky View has no intervention and most support positions are filled by general education teachers with minimal classroom experience and no specialized training.

Rocky View Schools continues to fall behind neighbouring divisions and our children are suffering because of it. It’s time for significant changes in leadership, hiring, funding allocation, and human resource management.

Our children deserve better.
