A partnership by the Town of Cochrane and Rocky View County will be moving forward to help enhance the delivery of recreational services for residents.
Following a Request for Proposal (RFP) earlier this year, the municipalities chose YMCA Calgary as their preferred proponent to explore operational models for the SLS Centre and Cochrane Area.
Since the Town and County are joint owners of the SLS Centre and Cochrane Arena, the RFP aims to a assess and identify the best operational practices to it remains sustainable and accessible as Cochrane continues to grow.
The RFP closed on July 9, 2024. It received three proposals that were reviewed by a committee of representatives from both municipalities. The evaluation led to two proponents advancing to the second phase, with YMCA Calgary selected as the candidate.
The committee has now entered the final review stage with YMCA Calgary. This will allow for deeper assessment of the proposed service delivery model, to better ensure it meets their criteria for long-term accessibility and sustainability of recreation programs.
The outcome will be presented to both Cochrane council, Rocky View Council, and the YMCA Board of Director for consideration in mid-to-late spring. The community will be informed throughout the process.
The Town outlines that there is a firm commitment that the ongoing RFP review will now impact recreation services in Cochrane. Residents can enjoy all existing programs and facilities without disruption.
