Cochranites can enjoy the night out for an evening of outdoor entertainment, and the snow moon and stars with the first-ever Big Hill Chill on Feb. 24.
From 7 p.m. to midnight, those looking for a night overlooking the town at the Cochrane and District AG Society grounds. Tickets to the event are available online for $45. Due to the time of the event, although there is no limitation, the event is aimed towards adults but parents may bring children to the event.
Event coordinator, Kailey Mitchell, said the Big Hill Chill aims to provide a unique night out for the community.
“We have a big inflatable igloo and we’re going to have live music, a bar, and food in there,” Mitchell explained. “And we have a couple surprises that we haven’t announced yet.”
Live music will be performed by Cochrane’s very own Smoking Aces. In addition, Half Hitch Brewing company will be serving cocktails and their signature brews through an ice chute bar.
The Butchery Block will also be on site to offer beef on a bun, alongside other snacks available for purchase.
Part of the proceeds will be headed to the Helping Hands Society of Cochrane and Area for their Coldest Night of the Year event.
“Participants from that event, if they want to come to Big Hill Chill, they can get a discount for coming, because it’s like a way to celebrate their accomplishments with their event as well,” Mitchell said.
Kailey added that a shuttle will be offered for the event from the Super 8 Motel in town, as parking is limited near the event venue.
As a precursor to the future of the event, Mitchell said one of the intentions is to eventually have the Big Hill Chill turn into a full-day festival in 2025.
“That was the original plan for this year, but we had to make some final decisions if we didn’t have any snow,” Mitchell said. “We had a strange start to our winter this year, so we had to make a little bit of adjustments for this year’s event, but the intention is to grow it into a full-day family festival.”
