A recent study has revealed that Alberta ranks eighth out of thirteen provinces spending $9,041 per person on both public and private healthcare annually.

Alberta personal injury lawyers, Preszler Injury Lawyers, analyzed data from the Canadian Institute for Health Information to determine how much each of the provinces and territories spends on healthcare per person in a year, taking into consideration the costs of both public and private healthcare.

“It is fascinating to see which provinces are spending the most on healthcare,” said a spokesperson from Preszler Injury Lawyers,  “Factors such as population size, geographic location, and the prevalence of chronic diseases likely play significant roles in these differences.”

The study placed Nunavut at the top spot, spending an estimated $23,652 per person, while Ontario spent the least, spending $8,245 per person each year. However, the study disclaims that Nunavut's remote location and harsh climate could contribute to these high costs, as well as their higher prevalence of certain diseases requiring more specialized care than other regions of Canada.

Various geographical reasons may also be at play when considering the elevated costs of other top spending provinces that should also be taken into consideration.

According to the spokesperson from Preszler Injury Lawyers, “On top of that, differences in health policies between provinces, the efficiency of healthcare systems, and the emphasis on preventive care can also have an impact on overall cost.”

Furthermore, the spokesperson emphasized that understanding the differences in health policies between provinces and the reasons for them can help policymakers create more effective healthcare solutions country-wide.
