Did you know that the ski hill was, in its past life, a coal mine? Snow Valley is paying homage to this history with an attraction called the Whitemud Creek Mining Company. Here you’ll find a series of troughs connected to a water tower. Participants scoop up the rough, which is a mixture of sand and treasures, and wash away the sand, screening out the goodies. Gems, crystals, fossils and more are waiting to be found! A local company, Amalgamated Mining Group has been a huge help in bringing this activity from concept to reality.
When you’ve sluiced out your treasures in the mine, it’s time to hit the greens. Well, the green grass of the ski hill that is! Target golf is a fun game anyone can play. There are 12 tee boxes from were you’ll aim at targets. The cheeky targets are topical – there is a rainbow to represent Rainbow Valley, a replica campsite, and many more. De Boer’s Golf Shop & Fitting Centre was instrumental in helping set up this adventure and will be providing demo days and other activities on site during the summer months.
Of course, all that sluicing and golfing is going to make you work up an appetite. You’ll be happy to know that there is a roomy outdoor patio with food and beverage choices that is class C licensed. That means, mom and dad can have a beer while the kids sit with the family. Distancing will be in effect while applicable so everyone can enjoy their refreshments safely. The ice cream shack is also opening again this year.
The fun doesn’t have to end there. Why not spend the weekend at Rainbow Valley Campground? It’s open and ready for guests. Three are allowed in the office at a time but you can skip the line by booking online or phoning ahead (highly recommended).
There is a change to Aerial Park for the 2021 season and beyond. Instead of going online to fill out the waiver, the terms and conditions are now on the ticket. Use of the ticket indicates agreement with the terms. Aerial Park is timed entry, so be sure to arrive 15 minutes ahead of your time slot to check in.
The mining adventure, target golf, Aerial Park, and Rainbow Valley Campground open with limited hours as spring winds down, then increased hours during the summer. Aerial Park must be pre-booked and to ensure your spot at the campground, advanced registration is recommended. The sluice and target golf are walk-up attractions.
Snow Valley is operating in accordance with safety guidelines during the pandemic. Until otherwise notified, masks and distancing are in effect. The staff appreciate your adherence to the rules and respect for the team and other guests. By considering the needs and rights of others, everyone can have a safe, fun time. As new guidance is released by the province over the summer, updated mask and distancing rules on site will be issued. A great way to stay updated is to follow Snow Valley on Facebook and regularity check the Aerial Park and Rainbow Valley websites.
