Scott Woods Band touring central Alberta in October

“Most of the shows on this tour help local charities, churches, food banks, service clubs and the like, plus, it is a great way for the general public to get out and support the local community."

The Scott Woods Band is on an extended tour of Canada reaching various venues, including several in Alberta, to bring entertaining country music and a giving spirit to help out local charities.

“Giving back to the community with the talents we were blessed with” is how bandleader Scott Woods describes his upcoming Yee Haw tour.

“Most of the shows on this tour help local charities, churches, food banks, service clubs and the like, plus, it is a great way for the general public to get out and support the local community,” Woods explained.

The tour has stops in 59 towns in 6 provinces over 73 days, from the middle of September to almost the end of November.

Woods is a multiple winner of the Canadian Open Fiddle Contest, the Canadian Grand Masters Fiddling Competition and was named Canadian Fiddle Entertainer of the Year.  In 2018, he was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Canadian Grand Masters Fiddling Association.

According to Woods, the shows, “encompass the values of yesteryear with the technology of today using state of the art sound and stage lighting with GoPro cameras and big-screen projection.Making it a true variety show, not unlike Don Messer’s Jubilee, the Tommy Hunter Show or Hee Haw.”

The Scott Woods Band brings Canadian fiddle music, traditional country, gospel, step dancing and lots of family-friendly humour to the stage. Costumes and antics including Wood’s famous trick fiddling, where he walks on a barrel and does a running somersault all while playing his fiddle.

Joining Woods on his Yee Haw 2024 tour is his sister, Kendra Norris. She is also a champion fiddler.  Kendra is known for doing her tribute to ‘Cousin Minnie Pearl.’ Kendra adds levity to the show while covering essential piano parts, accordion, fiddle as well as harmony and lead vocals.

Playing drums, fiddle, singing and step dancing is 20-year-old Leo Stock.

Known as “Good Ole Spaghetti Legs,” Leo won (for the second year in a row), the Canadian Open Step Dancing Championship and his feet go about a hundred miles-per-hour.

”Just watching Leo dance is worth the price of admission,” said Woods. ”And you can see it all on the big screen, no matter where you are seated!”

The Telecaster Master – Steve Piticco will be playing electric and acoustic guitars.  He is multiple winner of Guitar Player of the Year at the Canadian Country Music Association Awards, he has won Flat Picker of the Year from the Central Canadian Bluegrass Awards. Steve had his own television show in the Ottawa Valley for many years and is an inducted member of the Ottawa Valley Country Music Hall of Fame.

Special guest for the Yee Haw tour is Kurk Bernard. He sings lots of Traditional Country songs and plays the bass guitar. Kurk has performed with some true Country Music legends – Merle Haggard, Dolly Parton, Tommy Hunter and Ronnie Prophet.  When he is not on the road touring, Kurk regularly performs at the Stompin’ Tom Centre in Skinner’s Pond, Prince Edward Island.

The Yee Haw show pays tribute to the iconic television show, with lots of “pickin and a-grinnin”, some “Kornfield” humour, and of course some Canadian Old Time fiddle tunes in the style of Don Messer, Al Cherny, and Graham Townsend.

“You certainly don’t have to be a fiddle or country music fan to enjoy the show,” said Woods.  “I try to build the show so there is always something different to see and hear and your emotions will vary from excited, happy and fun to serious, sentimental and even sad.”

Most of the Scott Woods Shows are fundraising events for churches, charities and local community service organizations.  Upcoming Alberta dates in the region include Red Deer on Oct. 8, Trochu Oct. 9, Drumheller Oct. 10 and Okotoks on Oct. 21. There are also several other Alberta dates.
