Boil Water Order: Cochrane Lake home

Residents of Cochrane Lake Home in Rocky View County are under a boil water order after recent tests revealed contamination in the drinking water supply.

Boil Water Advisory in Rocky View County

A boil water order of an executive officer has been issued regarding the drinking water supply located in Rocky View County, Alberta and municipally described as Cochrane Lake Home, 263086 Range Road 43. 

The letter is addressed to Vince Luce and AR Investments Ltd., which states an executive officer of Alberta Health Services (AHS) have received a report about the above noted drinking water supply is or may become injurious or dangerous to the public health. 

As noted in the letter, water supplying the premises may be unsafe for human consumption as indicated by a water sample collected on July 21, 2025 that showed the presence of Total Coliform bacteria.

Water supplying the premises may be unsafe for human consumption as indicated by a water sample collected on July 28, 2025 that showed the presence of Total Coliform bacteria.

Lastly, water supplying the premises may be unsafe for human consumption as indicated by a water sample collected on August 11, 2025 that showed the presence of 3 Total Coliform bacterium per 100 ml.

The report disclosed that the following breaches of the Public Health Act Nuisance and General Sanitarian Regulation, Alberta Regulation 243/2003 exist in and about the above noted drinking water supply.

By virtue of the foregoing, the noted Drinking Water Supply is hereby declared unfit for human consumption.

Therefore, the executive officer ordered and directed that the owner immediately issues a Boil Water Advisory to all users of the above noted Drinking Water Supply. 

Additionally, that the owner immediately undertake and diligently pursue the completion of the following work in and about the above noted drinking water supply, as mentioned below. 

(a) Post do not drink advisory signs next to all water fixtures that are accessible to the users.

(b) Provide potable water from an approved source or provide water that has been boiled for one minute to patrons or staff until the drinking water is deemed safe for human consumption by an executive officer of AHS. 

(c) Provide hand sanitizer of at least 60 per cent alcohol content at all handwashing sinks for the disinfection of hands after they are washed. 

(d) Ensure that all food processing and preparation is done with potable water from an approved source or with water that has been boiled for one minute.

(e) Provide residents with the information provided by AHS on how to use water safely during a boiling water advisory. 

(f) Assess the water system to identify any potential causes of contamination and conduct any maintenance required to render the water potable.

Otherwise, install water treatment capable of treating groundwater under the direct influence of surface water. Plans for any water treatment must be submitted and approved by an executive officer prior to any work being started. 

The last alternative mentioned is provide permanent water supply of adequate volume and pressure from a potable source. 

(g) Submit water samples as directed by an executive officer after completing the work described in 1(e) to demonstrate the water is potable.

Work mentioned in (a) and (e) shall be completed immediately; including work referred in (f) and (g) shall be completed by September 15, 2025. 

The above conditions were noted at the time of receipt of the report and may not necessarily reflect all deficiencies. You are advised that further work may be required to ensure full compliance with the Public Health Act and regulations, or to prevent a public health nuisance.
