First, second, third…we’re proud of our staff members whenever they receive an award for their work. We may not be in this business to get awards, but nevertheless, it still makes you feel good when your peers recognize your work and feel it’s among the very best.
Cochrane Eagle photographer Ryan McLeod was the recipient of an ATCO 2014 Photographic Award over the weekend, placing second in the sports category for his ‘Baffled Bobcats’ volleyball photo.
Ryan picked up his award Feb. 13 during the Alberta Weekly Newspapers Association 2015 Newspaper Symposium in Edmonton. Jordan Verlage from the Eagle’s sister paper, the Okotoks Western Wheel, snagged the top spot in sports photography, as well as in the multi-picture category.
Great West Newspapers received a total of six photography awards, and the Eagle would like to congratulate each of them for their amazing work.
Photography is often an under-appreciated part of newspapers and has always been a primary focus of the Cochrane Eagle’s since our conception.
As much as we love words and understand the importance of keeping our readers informed with up-to-date, relevant and factual news, we also realize that nothing pulls a reader’s eyes to a page quite like a great photo. There’s a reason our front page is dedicated to photography every week.
We are spoiled to have a photographer like Ryan on our staff providing the best pictures from the Cochrane area each week.
Way to go Ryan! Keep up the good work.
