New Year off to great start with some amazing news

I’m done with chemo! Yahoo! Yes, my doctor has given me the thumbs up sign. The chemo has done its job. The tumors have shrunk, there is some evidence of bone re-building in my spine and so far my organs are good.

Yes, my doctor has given me the thumbs up sign. The chemo has done its job. The tumors have shrunk, there is some evidence of bone re-building in my spine and so far my organs are good. My struggles with chemo are over for now and you have no idea how good this feels!

Every day is getting better. My pain is under control with this new pain patch I am wearing, and aside from still feeling tired, I am almost back to my new normal. I am even getting some fuzz on my head.

Yes, my hair is coming back and how I have missed it. Regardless of all the jokes made to make me feel better about my bald noggin, I’m so happy to see something happening up there again.

So with this new lease on life, I am looking forward to the coming year and the possibilities it holds for me.

One of the possibilities is getting back to yoga. I had to give it up in the spring due to health problems, but now I am feeling ready to start. So I will be hauling out my mat again and will take small steps to get myself back into shape.

Walking is something I also had to give up. My plan is to begin with short walks on the treadmill, then around the block and slowly build up to the wonderful walking paths we have in our fair town.

I’ve also made a decision to put a book together containing all my newspaper articles. I originally thought this would be a nice legacy for my family, but now I am thinking there may be a larger market out there, so stay tuned for future developments.

It feels so good to be making plans for the future. Even folks like me who are wrestling with health concerns can do this.

It has been easy to use my health as an excuse for doing nothing, and I feel like I have been doing this for most of the past year. It's time to get my butt off the couch and get going again. And I will, with small, doable goals.

Goals are important to have. They give purpose and meaning to our lives. And they don’t need to be big. Making small, doable goals feels good because we can see that they are possible. And what a wonderful feeling it is when we achieve them. Satisfaction and pride are such nice side-effects.

So why don’t you get busy and join me. We don’t have to change the world — we just need to change our own world. One step at a time. One small doable goal at a time.

When is the last time you felt this good?
