To the Editor,
Most of us old folks were brought up with at least some semblance of manners. We were told that negative comments at weddings and funerals were bad manners and also inappropriate. The same standard should apply to politicians at culturally significant events like the Stampede Parade. At the parade today two politicians were interviewed by CTV about their participation in today's parade. The first was Mr. Nenshi who sung the praises of today's event as well as his previous participations. At no time did he inject an element of politics into his discussion. Thank you Mr. Nenshi for realizing that the Stampede parade is not a partisan event.
The second politician interviewed was Pierre Poilievre. After the niceties Mr. P. decided to inappropriately turn his interview into a campaign speech with the usual sloganeering about tax, government spending, crime, and immigration (?). Clearly Mr. P never learned the lesson about manners and appropriateness, or he has chosen to ignore them.
Are we really willing to accept this type of behaviour from a leader who appears with regularity to be lacking in basic manners?
Sincerely,
James D. Perras
