Dear Editor.
A very interesting story last week (Feb 6) edition of The Eagle.
I sympathize with Shaun Peter of G R O W and congratulate his group for what they are trying to do – in short – to persuade the G of A to follow FireSmart guidelines (which is a Provincial Program). It is proven that a mix of deciduous and coniferous trees is more wildfire resistant than a replant of only coniferous trees.
The Bragg Creek area is close to Calgary It is much used by outdoor enthusiasts on foot, horseback and bike.
An almost hundred year forest may be seen up the Spray Valley where Mr. C. Mjolsness senior – Brian and Barry’s father – logged as per the forestry guidelines of the day in the 1930s.
One popular trail to Chester Lake bears his name so folks can witness for themselves regrowth of mainly White Spruce . The trail is a good nordic ski trip and hike in summer.
