I'm sure everyone has noticed the blatant disregard for traffic laws. Drivers seldom stop for red lights or stop signs. It's more of a slow down and yield, if you feel like it. Pedestrians at intersections and crosswalks are often at risk as inattentive or uncaring drivers barrel through.
If the RCMP, which is responsible for policing, does not have the resources or desire to enforce traffic laws then we need to rethink our tax dollars. Respect for the law comes from education and enforcement. Flashing speed warning signs, without enforcement, have no deterrence value.
Our local Peace Officers should be tasked with directed traffic enforcement and meet traffic stop quotas, both educational and/or citations.
