I agree with both Judy Stewart’s and Jim Messner’s letters to the editor regarding Big Hill Lodge.
Questions that I believe every person involved in deciding where the new lodge should go is:
Would I want to live in that location? Could I easily access social places and stores from that location?
Is there a quiet space, a park, and walking areas that are conducive to elderly persons nearby?
Is it big enough to house a minimum of double (or triple) what is now available in the original Lodge?
This town has more than tripled since 2001. The Big Hill Lodge was built in 1977 with an expansion added in 1982 to bring the number of residents to 75 persons. The Town of Cochrane’s Senior population is near (if not at or more) 30 per cent of the population now. Seniors need an affordable, non-profit run, Lodge that can service the population now and in the foreseeable future (at least 10 years).
Just because there is an empty lot and it could be used does not mean it is a good choice or the right choice. In situations like this, I believe that the questions above, and more, are the most important questions to be answered and be of utmost consideration.
A Young Senior looking to my future,
