High River’s Jason Glass, pictured at the Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby, won his first Battle of the Rockies title on Aug. 17 to conclude the World Professional Chuckwagon Association season.

A thrilling finish in the world of chuckwagon racing came in record time.

High River’s Jason Glass took home the season-ending Battle of the Rockies championship with a track record on Sunday in Rocky Mountain House, the sixth record set during the competition, on a weekend that saw Chanse Vigen claim his third consecutive World Professional Chuckwagon Association title.

In the final race of the season, Glass, who qualified second in the aggregate behind Vigen, posted the benchmark time of 1:12.25 from the second barrel to win his second title alongside outriders Trey MacGillivray and Tyson Whitehead over the final three events of the season.

It’s the first Battle of the Rockies title in Glass’ storied career.

Vigen edged Glass by 4.5 points in the season standings to claim his third straight world title, becoming only the fifth driver to do so and joining elite company in Kurt Bensmiller (2017-19), George Normand (1991-93), Tom Dorchester (1969-71) and Ronnie Glass (1950-52). Rory Gervais won the World Outrider Championship.

Blackie’s Jordie Fike, who enjoyed a rebound season in the WPCA, finished 18th overall in the world standings with DeWinton’s Dayton Sutherland claiming the 21st spot.

In the Equine Outfit of Excellence awards, Glass’ Calm took home the Champion Outriding Horse recognition.
