Pending smoke conditions, the Bow Valley Rugby Club's (BVRC) junior girls teams are playing a double-header this evening (Friday, July 14) at Mitford Park with back-to-back games. The U16 girls play at 6 p.m. followed by the U18 girls at 8 p.m.
"There is some up-and-coming talent with the junior girls on both the U16 and U18 teams," said Corinne Sato, the vice-president of rugby for the BVRC, in an email. "Recently, some of the players from BVRC have played provincially for either the Calgary Mavericks or the Red Deer Predators."
Sato said a few of BVRC's girls have been trying out for the Alberta Wolf Pack Rugby Teams and some will be attending the Alberta Summer Games in Okotoks from July 20 to 23
"The junior girls would love the support, so feel free to drop by at Mitford for a fun-filled Friday night of rugby," she said.
However, Sato said the games could be cancelled due to smoke conditions, pending a decision by the Calgary Rugby Union. She said that will be determined by 1 p.m. this afternoon.
"Not ideal, but we want people to be safe," she said.
