The national weather agency is warning of winds up to 100 kilometres an hour Tuesday (Nov. 16) in parts of Alberta, including Cochrane.

Environment Canada issued a weather warning for communities in Rocky View County around Cochrane, Bottrell, Madden, Airdrie and Crossfield just before 11 a.m.

The warning extends to communities in Mountain View County including Carstairs, Stirlingville, Cremona, Water Valley, Olds, Didsbury and Sundre.

The winds are expected to diminish from west to east throughout the afternoon while areas near the Saskatchewan border will continue to see high winds into the evening.

Parts of east-central Alberta may also experience low visibility due to blowing snow, Environment Canada warns.

"Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur," the federal agency said. "Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions due to high winds."
